When designing or redesigning your bathroom it can easy to choose your furnishings, colour scheme and even lighting style based purely on what seems chic or stylish. Often people make style choices without consideration towards personalising the layout and aesthetic of their bathroom to their own specific wants and needs.

Before settling on the exact furnishings, style and the colours of your bathroom it’s worth thinking about how they apply to your personality and the personalities of those around you. If you live with a group (be it family or friends) then it’s always worth asking them to offer advice and add their own thoughts to the potential style of the bathroom. If you’re living alone, make sure that it caters to you specifically and don’t make choices simply based on what’s “in style” right now.

For example it may very well be that you want a light and airy feel to the bathroom, to give it an overall sense of being refreshing and revitalising. This might be due to your bathroom’s role in the house being to wake up in before it’s time to leave, for showering in the morning and invigorating your body and mind before a day of work. In this case it’s advisable to choose reflective and fairly space conscious furnishings to create the feeling of openness. Light colours, especially white tiles are great for reflecting light and really giving the whole room a lively, vibrant feeling and mirrors also lend themselves to this function well.

On the other end of the spectrum your life and personality might require the functions of your bathroom to centre around relaxation and tranquillity. For a lot of people the room in which you unwind after a hard day’s work and sigh away some of those tired feelings in a nice hot bath. In this case it’s worth looking at richer and darker tones of furnishing with more absorbent and complex colour schemes. Items and colours which create the sensation of quiet cosiness are recommended, and the inclusion of fewer mirrors as well as more space for luxurious items like candles or incense and robes can suit well to this specific feel.

With our stylish selection of bathroom accessories, you can add personal touches here and there, whatever your style! With a great selection of illuminated mirrors, stylish tiles and sleek storage cabinets, you’ll be sure to find a piece that matches your personality.

In either case it’s worth sitting down with all of your bathroom’s prospective users (even if that’s just you), and discussing the personality it needs to have to suit everyone’s needs. Whether it’s revitalising and invigorating or tranquil and soothing, it’s always worth taking time over your choices to make sure they’re the right ones.

Why not try creating a “pros and cons” list of all the potential styles, or perhaps make a list or collage of everything you’d put into two very different, personal styles and see which one fits better with the size and shape of your bathroom. Don’t forget that lots of different things can affect the way we think about furnishings and colours, (even the seasons) and that it’s better to go with your personal feelings rather than what is necessarily in fashion at the time.
