But there are some styles which are so rarely explored and applied to our everyday designs that they have become something of a rare super chic, and one such cultural style is that of Tuscany. For those readers who are unfamiliar with Tuscany it is a region of Italy well known for its stunning geography, complex artistic legacy and its influences on all that is considered to be elegant and cultured. Tuscany is also regarded as being the birthplace of the “Italian Renaissance”, and as such has been home to many influential artists, writers and composers such as; Dante, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and Puccini.

This rich and powerful heritage has lead to Tuscany being considered as one of the most artistic, beautiful and well cultured places left on earth. First off it’s best to mention the basic beginnings of this style, because a lot of the most influential parts of it are created using simple accessories from the right sources in the right styles. The colour schemes often associated with Tuscany’s rich and complex artistic heritage can be traced back to the work of its most popular artists. Soft, matte, pastel shades which can be identified with the works of such painters as Leonardo da Vinci, are the tones which have become synonymous with the region, almost as much as much as wine and music have.

Most paint shops which offer a large range of colours will stock the right kinds of shades to achieve the Tuscan look, but the best research should be done using the work of the painters and artists who made the region famous. Gold, cream, mauve and soft greens are an ideal starting place for Tuscany’s colour schemes.

Finally when a soft pastel colour scheme has been settled upon it’s time to look at accessories. Unlike currently mass popular styles such as “zen” based minimalism, Tuscan culture uses large and complex items with large space between each, rather than small items which are few, it uses large items which are correctly spaced.

A great place to start with accessories is candles, for two reasons. One is due to common usage of candles in the bathroom for relaxing and creating a tranquil atmosphere, and the other is because items like candles can actually be ordered in from Tuscan craftsmen without spending an absolute fortune. Genuine items are great way to start a cultural theme and to give a genuine place to start from when buying and choosing your next items.

Terracotta sculptures or wall mounted items are great for continuing the Tuscan style although these are no where near as cheap or easy to source from Tuscany as candles. Finding the right sculpture will need a good search but lesser known more traditional garden centres can be an unusual but ideal place to look for small, bold terracotta items.

Wrought iron is another unmistakable stylistic preference of this region which creates a rich and bold stylistic statement. Black wrought iron door handles or a soap dish are ideal for squeezing this material in without overwhelming the rest of the items.

A great finishing touch on top of a few well placed accessories which have been crafted from the correct materials, is a copied photo or large print of a Tuscan artists painting on the wall. No Tuscan styled room is complete without something which at least looks like a painting, a cream or light gold coloured frame will finish it off nicely.
