We might already be over halfway through 2016, but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep adopting some of the year’s top interior design bathroom trends! So we have put together this short list of top bathroom trends, that you can put into action in your own home. We hope this gets your creative juices flowing…

1. Industrial Chic

Believe it or not the big colour this year is grey, which in previous years may have sounded very dull and drab. However by using furniture and sanitaryware made from silver metals, stone or marble, you can create a really stylish and modern design that will stay in fashion for years to come. We suggest using metal towel rails or grey furniture units to add that classy dash of grey to the room. Or, if you want to really embrace this look, why not clad your bathroom walls in grey using concrete style tiling or waterproof shower panels? However if you do use a lot of grey colours in your bathroom, you could soften the look by adding a nice fluffy rug, light coloured wooden furniture or pairing with lighter pastel coloured items to make sure that your bathroom doesn’t end up looking too harsh and sparse.

2. Flower Power

The floral trend always seems to crop up every year in one form or another, usually featuring as part of towel and toilet seat cover designs (think Cath Kidson). This is no bad thing – floral patterns have a timeless feel and can instantly brighten and cheer up a tired-looking room. This year, why not go bold on this trend and add a floral pattern to your bathroom walls? As you can see in the stunning bathroom above, pairing floral designs with white tiling creates a beautiful, stylish effect and is sure to impress. This trend goes extremely well with more traditional bathroom designs that feature freestanding baths and intricate ceramic pieces, however can also work just as well when teamed with modern furniture. When using bold patterns such as these, is is important to make sure that your other bathroom furniture does not clash with the bright colours – which is why white is the perfect colour to pair this bathroom trend with. One of the more feminine bathroom trends that would be very much suited to a family bathroom.

3. Nice And Cozy

Bathrooms are obviously there to serve a function, but who says that you can’t make them feel cozy and welcoming as well? You want your home to have a consistent feel and theme running throughout so it is always sad to see when a house has had so much beautiful renovation done to the living room, kitchen and bedrooms, but the bathrooms have been neglected. Usually they feature the same old white and blue colour scheme and nothing else. Make your bathroom feel connected to the rest of your home by adding more living furniture into it, including wooden chairs, rugs and dressing tables. Give your home the feeling of a hotel through these little touches of coziness!  It’s simple, effective, and one of our favourite bathroom trends for those working within a limited budget.

4. Embrace The Natural Elements

Instead of the traditional glossy white finish we have become used to in our bathroom furniture and ceramics, this year the manufacturers have lent towards using matte finish on their products by using darker colours and materials such as stone, concrete and marble. The idea behind this trend is to connect your home with the earthly elements for a modern yet classic effect. We absolutely love the idea of using brass or steel baths along with stone wall cladding and marble worktops as seen in the image above, and see it as the perfect look for a cozy, country cottage.

5. Crazy Tiling

Without a doubt the most modern of the featured trends this year is the use of geometric tiling to create colourful and bold statement walls. In the past it was commonplace to see individual tiles with intricate designs on them, usually featuring old fashioned logos from long-gone soap and cosmetic brands. These days the tiles have stayed, but the intricate designs have disappeared in favour of plain, bright colours. Andrew Crawshaw, director of design at Smarter Bathrooms based in Melbourne, Australia says that “…simple, timeless tiles will be laid in unusual patterns in order to create enduring appeal.” Create a hexagonal feature wall like the design seen above, or come up with your own individual design to set your bathroom apart from the rest!

Have you used any of these bathroom trends in your home recently? If so we would love to hear from you. Just send us your bathroom photos along with your name, location and brief description of the design via Facebook messaging, and we would be happy to show them off online for you!
