A modern bathroom is a real asset to any home. Slick, stylish contemporary designs are timeless and clean – ideal for day to day living yet versatile and inoffensive enough to be advantageous should you wish to sell up and move on at any point.

Modern might seem like a simple theme, but in actual fact it takes a little know-how and some thoughtful planning to bring a modern scheme together effectively. If you’re in need of expert inspiration, why not take a look at our hand-picked modern bathroom ideas below?

The slick and chic

The slick and chic is perfect for any size and shape of bathroom. This is an incredibly versatile style – so you can choose from any colour and a range of styles. This style lends itself to small spaces and vast bathrooms alike and involves modern, stylish fixtures which subtly incorporate cutting-edge technology and design, like our stunning Risk Anthracite Radiator. It’s popular to introduce splashes of colour and patterns into the slick and chic – so incorporate these through decorative touches such as towels, artwork, mirrors and lighting.

Earthy Natural

The desirable earthy natural look involves polished or raw finished natural or artificial stone from floor to ceiling – perhaps with the interjection of feature tiling or mood lighting offering an ambient warm space perfect for taking a long, relaxing soak in the bath.

White or matching stone fixtures work very nicely with this look – in particular those raw styles hewn from thick chunks of stone or slate yet implemented with perfectly clean lines. Floating marble-style or white bowls (such as our Vitra Sunrise Basin, £172) also look fabulous. Earthy natural works well for bathrooms large or small – but looks especially impressive incorporated in a large family bathroom. A little space gives you scope to add features – so why not opt for a luxurious corner bath (we like the Trojan Orlando Corner Bath, £199)?

Black and white

Black and white is a classic combination when it comes to the bathroom. But contrary to the old ‘diamond tiled’ look from days gone by where each colour was present in equal measure, today’s stylish black and whites feature a bold swathe of one colour, with tiny details of the other. In decadent designs reminiscent of those often found footballer’s homes, full black walls in sparkling polished tile are complemented perfectly by shiny white floors and silver fixtures, with slithers of glass partitioning the shower and toilet areas. If you prefer the bright and airy feel of a white bathroom, introducing black in a similarly subtle way can really give your bathroom an edge. From a small line of black tiling around the walls to black granite flooring or simply some black accessories such as towels or soap dispensers, you can go as bold or as bright as you like whilst maintaining a classy, simply stylish feel.

50 shades of grey

Silver has seen a renaissance following the days grey hues were looked upon unkindly in favour of bright gaudy yellows, blues and greens in the bathroom. Grey is now an incredibly fashionable colour in all areas of the home – but it’s especially seeing a resurgence in the nation’s bathrooms. The great thing about grey is that it is incredibly versatile and can be used in conjunction with a range of fittings – especially bath/shower enclosures and vintage styles (we love the impressive Royce Morgan Miami roll-top bath and Matrix L-shape shower-bath with screen, £279). There are also many different types of grey – from light and breezy dove grey which allows light to pour in and bounce from every wall, to moody battleship grey which gives your space a sultry regency feel. If you fancy going one step further with the grey theme, you can introduce sparkling fittings and features made from raw materials such as slate, granite and marble for that extra luxurious finish.
