How Can You Improve Water Quality And Save Money In The Long Term?

August is officially Water Quality Month, and as a bathroom company we take a great interest in ways that we can try to improve our water quality and save the amount of water that we use. Unlike many other places around the world, here in the UK we are blessed with our very high levels of water quality, but there are always ways in which we can improve even more.

August is officially Water Quality Month, and as a bathroom company we take a great interest in ways that we can try to improve our water quality and save the amount of water that we use. Unlike many other places around the world, here in the UK we are blessed with our very high levels of water quality, but there are always ways in which we can improve even more.

Now we can’t save the world all by ourselves, but we can each do our little bit!

1. Soothe Your Skin

Hard water is the bane of our plumbing’s life. The high levels of certain minerals such as iron, calcium and magnesium in our tap water can cause a variety of problems: the most annoying being the build up of limescale in water pipes. For those who live in hard water areas this is a big problem when it comes to cleaning kitchen appliances and bathrooms, however the long term effects of living in a hard water area could be more serious. Studies have shown that children that are born in London or the South East (which have the highest levels of hard water in the country) are 87% more at risk to develop eczema than children living in soft water areas, as the calcium elements dry out the skin more quickly and cause irritation. For many young families, this is a problem that has to be faced every day.

But there is a solution to bad water quality!

A great way of improving the water quality in your bathroom is to install a water softener. Water softeners filter out the chemicals and minerals that often inflame skin conditions such as eczema and also means that you should see a noticeable difference in the amount of limescale build up in your plumbing! As well as making your water much nicer to bathe and shower in, you should also notice a difference in the taste of your drinking water. Cups of tea will never be the same again!

The cost of a water softening system can range from hundred of pounds to thousands of pounds depending on the make and model you go for – so make sure to do your research to find the best unit for your home. Pop into one of our showrooms in Manchester or Handforth, Cheshire to speak to our team about what optionswe can give you for your home.

2. Invest In Eco-Friendly Bathroom Products

If you are really committed to saving the planet, there are plenty of water saving bathroom products that you can buy. One such product is the Balance Bath from Vitra, which is ergonomically designed to feature a larger angle at the sloping end, meaning that the bath has a lower depth but still plenty of room for a comfortable bath. This small adjustment means that you can save up to 60 LITRES each time you flow your bath – just think of how much water you could save in a year!

This bath is perfect for mid-sized bathrooms and comes in a range of 3 lengths: 1500mm, 1600mm and 1700mm. Peace of mind for the ecologically concerned consumers out there!

For larger households or hotels that use a lot of water, there is also a way to make sure you don’t use too much. The Nova Flo is a clever little gadget that automatically shuts off the water supply of your baths and basins once the water hits the overflow. We’ve all been guilty of leaving our taps running at some point, but the Nova Flo ensures that no flooding accidents that can rack up huge repair bills can happen again! The Nova Flo is now only £115 at Bathshop321, click here to find out more.
