The Fairy Bathmother’s 15 Minute Fixes – Safety First

The Fairy Bathmother’s 15 Minute Fixes – Safety First - Bathroom DIY

Shower mats are a fantastic way to ensure you don’t do the old ‘banana skin’ slip in the tub! They do definitely help you to retain some grip underfoot when in the bath or shower. Conditioners and hair removal products can be particularly slimy on the bottom of the tub and can make it like an ice rink. Whilst this may not be a cause for concern for figure skaters, us regular clumsy oafs can find it somewhat more problematic. Shower mats can blend in nicely when clear but you can get them in other colours too if you’d like a more bold option to match your accent colour. Make sure to run them through the washing machine regularly though as they can get surpisingly manky, which isn’t to the Fairy Bathmother’s tastes at all.

Howdy 15 Minute Fixers! It’s that time of the month again to enhance your bathroom to make it a more comfortable, clean and safe place to be. In this issue we look at some quick fixes to improve bathroom safety. Whether you have an elderly relative, disabled person, young child or would just like to make your bathing experience that bit safer then here is how you can do it in fifteen minutes flat!

Handrails

grab bars

Okay so they’re not the sexiest bathroom product on the market but handrails can blend in with your décor surprisingly well! Baths and showers can get a tad slippery with all that sludge that comes from your shower gels and bars of soaps and alternating standing on one leg like a stork to lather up your other foot doesn’t help! If you’ve ever had that feeling when you almost lose your footing in the bath, then you’ll know how much you’d have appreciated something stable to grab hold of and save your rather wet and soapy skin. They’re also helpful for lowering yourself down in the tub and clambering out once you’re squeaky clean! Handrails are easy to install and can be done so in a similar manner to a towel rail.

Shower Mats

A Good Old Fashion Rinsing

Aside from everything else, making sure you rinse the bathtub and shower after using it will prevent that layer of sludge from forming on the bottom of the tub and creating that slippery surface. Giving it a regular clean with a special bathroom spray can help keep your tub and shower looking shiny without the slipperyness! Make sure your family members rinse it out after them too; we all know that a film of Gilette on the bottom of the tub is totally unacceptable!

Time’s up folks! I’m afraid that’s the end of the second issue and by now, your bathroom should be the safest room of the house!
