World Water Day 2013 – Statistics and Infographic

World Water Day 2013 – Statistics and Infographic - News and Press

As part of our campaign activities this year, we have spent a lot of time creating various materials – one of which being our World Water Day infographic. Our infographic highlights a striking need for action in many countries and communities that are suffering without clean water and sanitation. With less than 1% of the world’s fresh water being accessible for human use, there is a clear need for cooperation to help the people who need it most.

Today marks annual World Water Day, a day to help raise awareness and take action against diminishing water supplies, and a lack of access to basic sanitation across many parts of the world.

Each year charities, schools, companies and individuals all get involved to help spread the word, and we’ve been doing our bit to help educate people about the importance of it for 2013.

Statistics

As well as our infographic to help educate people about World Water Day, we have also carried out our first annual Water Usage Survey. We reached out to a selection of our customers and the general public to find out more about their water consumption habits – which resulted in some interesting findings.

85% of people prefer taking a shower rather than a bath

50% of people spend more than 5 minutes in the shower

Nearly 25% of people spend more than 10 minutes running the bath

What this highlights for us is that people are quite water conscious as a whole, but much more could be done to conserve water. A large percentage of people we surveyed are keeping their baths and showers to the recommended limits in order to keep water wastage to a minimum, but there are still an alarming amount of people who could be doing more.

To help encourage water saving in the home – and particularly the bathroom – we have put together a range of water saving tips which we hope will help people conserve more water. We can sometimes take water for granted with such easy access to it, however there are many parts of the world which are struggling.

Consider doing your bit this World Water Day.
