Following Borussia Dortmund’s result over Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final recently, we learned that Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke had found it unbearable towards the end of the match. In the final minutes of the game, Mr. Watzke retreated to the bathroom where he remained until after the final whistle – as he was too nervous to watch the remainder of the match.

As part of our campaign activities this year, we have spent a lot of time creating various materials – one of which being our World Water Day infographic. Our infographic highlights a striking need for action in many countries and communities that are suffering without clean water and sanitation. With less than 1% of the world’s fresh water being accessible for human use, there is a clear need for cooperation to help the people who need it most.

As you may or may not know, March 22nd is annual World Water Day – a day aimed at building awareness around the need to protect fresh water supplies. Although the UK has daily access to clean and healthy water, many areas of the world do not. There are currently 2.5 billion people, including almost one billion children, without access to even basic sanitation. World Water Day, as part of the International Year of Water Cooperation, aims to promote the need for water cooperation to help share this precious resource equitably.
